WHAT IS KYBELLA®?
KYBELLA® is a non-surgical injection used to reduce excess fat that is both safe and effective. The KYBELLA® injection liquid is made of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a natural bile acid naturally produced in our bodies. This acid is produced to help the body absorb fat. The synthetic acid destroys fat cells so they can no longer dwell in the treated areas. The deoxycholic acid used in this procedure is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in cosmetic injections.
DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR TREATMENT?
Very little preparation is needed before your treatment appointment. Dr. Pearlman will ask you to wash your face thoroughly before the procedure to help prevent infection. He will also request that you avoid ibuprofen or acetaminophen to prevent an increased likelihood of post-treatment bruising.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS?
Dr. Pearlman will begin by using a marker to indicate injection sites before starting the procedure. A topical numbing agent will then be applied to ease any pain and discomfort from the injections. Around 20 to 30 injections will be administered under the chin in a single treatment session. The entire treatment process may take anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes.
WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE?
There is no downtime with this procedure; however, some patients like to take one day off since swelling usually peaks around 20 hours after the treatment. This swelling can last up to 48 hours and can be accompanied by other minor side effects such as pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness. Any minor side effects usually subside between one and two weeks.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Results will vary from person to person, and multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results. If repeat treatments are desired or needed, KYBELLA® can be repeated six times with one month between sessions. Results will be noticeable in four to six weeks and should last for years.
