Welcome to Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery for deep plane facelift in NYC on Park Avenue.
The deep plane facelift is a specialized surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation that creates results that appear entirely natural.Sometimes referred to as an “extended deep plane facelift,” the technique provides tightening in the lower cheeks, jawline, and neck. The term “deep plane” refers to anatomic plan between the SMAS and the muscles that create our facial expressions. Unlike a traditional facelift, the deep plane facelift is focused on the repositioning of the muscles at the same time as the skin. Patients get a superior result that looks less “pulled” by placing all the tension on the SMAS muscle.
Dr. Pearlman is dual board-certified in both Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery; as a patient you can trust his expertise on facial anatomy.
Natural results for a more beautiful you.
This type of facelift rejuvenates muscle laxity in the neck and cheeks to restore a more youthful appearance, without creating a look that is pulled or tight.
The approach involves releasing the major facial ligaments that allow enhanced repositioning of the skin along with the underlying SMAS and facial tissues to achieve a look that is fresh and natural.

What is a facelift?
During a facelift your plastic surgeon “lifts” the facial muscles and skin to create a dramatic improvement in your cheeks and jawline.
Often patients will combine blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow lift, and/or a lip lift for total facial rejuvenation.

Recovery Process
During your consultation for facelift surgery in our New York office, the goal is absolute understanding between surgeon and patient. Dr. Pearlman will thoroughly assess your specific aesthetic needs. How much lifting do you need? Do you have banding of the platysma muscle under the neck? Will a brow lift or eyelid procedure help rejuvenate the upper face? Which method will give you a refreshed and younger appearance? He analyzes the entire face with rejuvenation as the goal, and natural-looking results as the promise.
A deep plane facelift focuses on the cheeks, jawline and neck, so patients seeking rejuvenation for their forehead or eyebrows will want to consider secondary procedures, such as a brow lift and/or neck lift. This will be discussed at the time of your consultation. Often these procedures can be performed during the same surgery without adding to the total recovery time required.
A deep plane facelift uses the same incisions as a “short-flap facelift,” with another extension extending to the hairline behind and above the ears. The technique involves lifting the underlying SMAS and supporting tissues along with lax, drooping, or sagging skin. Any laxity at the cheeks and upper neck is improved, as the skin, SMAS and supporting tissue is repositioned upward and back toward the ears. This unique facelift technique produces remarkably natural-looking results.
Following your deep plane facelift, you will need to plan for time to recover, which varies by individual. You will need to plan to rest for a week or two before resuming normal activities.
Gradually, the redness, bruising, and swelling will fade. The most challenging part of recovery is during the first week, due to the swelling and bruising. During this phase, you will have medication to help keep you comfortable. You can expect to return to most of your usual activities within two weeks of your surgery.
Facelift Recovery Timeline
Your personal recovery timeline may look different because of your individual needs and comfort level. These are general benchmarks we use with our patients:
Navigating recovery after a deep plane facelift is about setting yourself up for success by preparing before your surgery. Following your post-operation instructions and relying on your support network at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery are key. Our Patient Care Coordinator Stefanie will be available to you throughout the process, as well as Dr. Pearlman. We also often recommend our patients focus on relaxation techniques after their surgery. The more relaxed you are, the easier the process will feel.
Day 1 to 2: Wear your facial dressing as directed to promote proper healing.
Days 3 to 4: This is when you won’t feel your best. Most patients describe pain as minimal, but there is a level of discomfort because of the swelling. The main thing patients feel is tightness in the face and neck.
Day 4: By this time most patients will feel well enough to read novels or work from home.
Week 1 to Week 2: You can expect to return to social settings as you feel able and comfortable.
Supremely Natural Results by Dr. Pearlman
Gratifying for both patient and surgeon.
“Facelift surgery is a precise dissection alongside and underneath specific facial planes. I get the opportunity to significantly improve a patient’s appearance, making them look more youthful and refreshed. It’s highly rewarding to see a patient gaze into the mirror months post-op and say, ‘Now I look as young and vital on the outside as I feel on the inside.'”

Frequently Asked Questions
Deep Plane Facelift
Facelift Types
Am I a good candidate for a deep plane facelift in NYC?
Patients of a variety of ages can benefit from a deep plane facelift. Younger patients who see the early signs of sagging and jowls can look years younger, while older patients can restore jawline definition, youthful cheeks, and smooth jowls and facial creases with a deep plane facelift.
During your consultation, we can discuss how to best achieve your desired results. It’s possible that you’ll benefit from a deep plane facelift paired with another facial rejuvenation procedure.
How long can I expect my results to last?
A highly skilled and experienced facial plastic surgeon can make all the difference. With Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, you can expect a beautiful and natural transformation that is long-lasting, with skin that looks many years younger until you get back to where you were when you had your facelift. A deep plane facelift is a permanent procedure, but the aging process continues. You will be able to enjoy younger skin for much longer than you would have otherwise.
What’s the difference between a deep plane facelift and a traditional facelift?
A deep plane facelift is a variant of a traditional facelift procedure sometimes referred to as an extended deep plane facelift. During a deep plane facelift, the skin and muscles are moved as a unit instead of separately as in a traditional or SMAS facelift. This prevents unnecessary tension on the skin and aids in more natural looking results.
Will there be visible scars?
Deep plane facelift incisions typically heal with minimal to no visible scarring. A deep plane facelift does not create an unnatural tension or pulled look to the skin. Without tension on the incisions, they will heal to the point of being virtually invisible.
