Benefits of an Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

Long-lasting, natural-looking results

Less traumatic technique

Faster recovery timeline

Less bruising and swelling

Prevents risk of bone fractures

Reduces soft tissue trauma around nose

Increased accuracy and precision

Improved facial harmony

The Piezo ultrasonic rhinoplasty technique achieves remarkable success, improved precision, and reduced trauma when compared to traditional rhinoplasty techniques. Since its FDA-approval in November of 2017, Dr. Pearlman has been lecturing and demonstrating the use of this device at numerous rhinoplasty meetings and dissection courses.

An advanced technique for beautiful results.

The Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty technique is a significant advance in custom nose surgery. After years of development and testing in Europe, Piezo-powered Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty is now available in the United States.

The Piezo technology has been in use for dental and oral surgical procedures for a long time. It helps narrow and sculpt the bridge of the nose and allows precision on bones or hard cartilage without damaging delicate adjacent soft tissue.

Our ultrasonic rhinoplasty in NYC involves far less trauma and bruising, faster recovery, and more precise results.

Ultrasonic Technology

The device for our Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty in NYC generates ultrasonic vibrations that can cut and shave bone with a significantly reduced risk of damaging nose cartilage, nerves, blood vessels, or skin. Altering the width, shape, and profile of your nose structure may require a reshaping of the nasal bones. In a traditional rhinoplasty in which nasal bones are reshaped, the technique involves the use of surgical rasps or chisels.

With the Piezo system, the nasal bones can be resculpted and polished without causing extensive collateral damage to surrounding tissues. This precision tool allows Dr. Pearlman to precisely alter the nasal bones, preserving the soft tissue, for faster recovery time; less pain and bruising; and quicker regeneration and healing.

How it Works

Establish Your Goals

Full Nose Examination & Imaging

Form & Function

Ask Questions

Dr. Pearlman will begin your consultation listening to your concerns about your nose, specific issues you are looking to resolve, and your desired results from an ultrasonic rhinoplasty in NYC. Establishing expectations and a mutual understanding of the rhinoplasty procedure are important before moving forward with the surgery.

Things to consider when establishing your goals:

  • What part of your nose would you like changed? The tip? The bridge?
  • Are you having breathing problems?
  • Have you had previous surgeries?
  • Has your nose been broken or experienced other trauma?

Our rhinoplasty planning tool can be a great place to start if you’re not sure how to explain the changes. Dr. Pearlman always takes care to thoroughly explain the different areas of the nose and how he would go about implementing the changes you’d like to see.

Based upon your unique nasal anatomy, intricacies of the nose, and your own goals, Dr.  Pearlman  will then perform a full examination of your nose inside and out. We use advanced Mirror® 2D and Vectra® 3D imaging to help you envision your future results. The device scans your nose and allows us to simulate how different changes will look on your face, giving you a clear picture of the possibilities.

The use of computer imaging  technology is vital to understanding not only the potential changes and improvements to the nose itself, but also to visualize your new nose and how it balances with the rest of your facial features. Examining the images together is an important part of making sure you and Dr. Pearlman are on the same page about your desired results.

A rhinoplasty surgery is not just about improving the appearance of your nose but also about respecting the integrity of its function. After all, the nose is a necessary part of how we breathe, so it’s important that any cosmetic changes don’t create new functional problems, and often improves breathing.

During your consultation, Dr. Pearlman will help determine how to achieve your aesthetic goals without hindering the function of your nose. Of course, the same is true for the opposite. If your natural nasal anatomy is causing breathing problems, a rhinoplasty surgery can address those as well. He likes to quote the architectural dictum: Form Follows Function.

Dr. Pearlman will be incredibly thorough to ensure he has addressed every aspect of your nose. He’ll confirm that you understand the achievable goals based on his recommendations, and that he understands your desired results based on the imaging!.

The right rhinoplasty surgeon for you should be able to provide a wealth of information regarding your procedure.

Throughout your rhinoplasty consultation at our NYC office, we highly encourage you to ask any and every question on your mind.

Common questions:

How long will it take to see results?

What will my recovery be like?

Which type of rhinoplasty will work best for me?

What makes you most qualified to perform my rhinoplasty?

Can I see your before and after gallery?

Would you be willing to expand on the process for some of these before and after photos?

Will there be any visible scarring after the incisions heal?

We will walk you through every step of the process so you can feel confident in your decision to receive a rhinoplasty by Dr. Steven Pearlman. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priority.

Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty Recovery

Dr. Pearlman and his staff will closely guide you through your post operative care. He will provide detailed instructions on all aspects of the process to help guide your recovery.
The incision heals so that it is barely visible, if at all and only when viewed up close and from below the nose. Dr. Pearlman often says “someone will have to be close enough to be able to count your nasal hairs to see this incision.”

What To Expect

Your first visit to our office will be scheduled for one week post-op, when we remove the cast and any external sutures used (in open rhinoplasty and alarplasty).

The average recovery time for acute healing is 2 to 3 weeks. Most patients feel well enough to work from home within the first week. Because of Dr. Pearlman’s expertise and technique, patients at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery usually experience quicker than average recovery periods.

After 3 weeks you can resume your gym workout routine, though we request you avoid activities that could result in injury to the nose.

In addition, the nose is cleaned and carefully suctioned internally.

Subsequent visits are at 2 and 6 months, and one year post-op for photographs. Most patients will see 85% of their results at 1 month out, 95% of results at 6 months out and 99% at 1 year.

If your rhinoplasty involves the tip of your nose, it’s important to understand that the tip takes the longest to heal and see results.

Superior Results From an Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty Expert

The best compliment we get following rhinoplasty is when patients are told they “look great” but the observer cannot tell why.

“Rhinoplasty will improve the appearance and function of your nose so it naturally complements your face. The best noses are the ones that aren’t obvious; that respect your ethnic identity. Surgery is tailored to each patient’s needs and desires, creating a more harmonious appearance.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Rhinoplasty

How is ultrasonic rhinoplasty done?

Instead of using a manual chisel or another tool, an ultrasonic rhinoplasty is done by using a high-frequency oscillating tool to precisely shave, alter, and correct the bone layer by layer. The ultrasonic waves are tuned to a specific frequency to selectively act on bone and nothing else. Even as part of an open rhinoplasty procedure, this technique results in less trauma to the surrounding soft tissue, which means less bruising and faster recovery.

Is a rhinoplasty covered by my insurance?

If the purpose of your rhinoplasty is to correct breathing issues and a deviated nasal symptom, it is possible your insurance may cover the breathing or functional  portion of the procedure! Dr. Pearlman’s dedicated office staff will be more than happy to assist you in discovering whether or not your procedure will be covered. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by insurance, but we do offer several financing options for you to choose from.

Is ultrasonic rhinoplasty better?

Since every patient’s anatomy, goals, and intricacies of rhinoplasty are unique, it is limiting to say that ultrasonic rhinoplasty is “better” since every rhinoplasty case is subjective.

Is ultrasonic rhinoplasty less painful?

Because of the more delicate technique with a high-frequency, precise tool, an ultrasonic rhinoplasty can be less painful and cause less swelling and bruising, leading to a faster healing and recovery.

What will the first week of recovery entail?

You will have some bruising and swelling around the eyes during the first week of recovery. Some patients need time to adjust to breathing through their mouth; it’s akin to having a mild cold. Fatigue from the anesthesia is common for the first day or two. Patients should rest the first few days in an upright position to minimize swelling for better healing.

Why choose Dr. Pearlman for ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

If you are considering undergoing a “nose job,” your surgery should be performed by a skilled, board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon – and with the most advanced techniques. Dr. Pearlman is among the first plastic surgeons in the U.S. using this innovative surgical tool for precision alteration to the nasal bones and offers this advance at his private, luxury New York plastic surgery clinic.
