According to recent annual surveys from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive procedures are rapidly rising in men.

Our Providers have seen the same occurring in our practice with our services for men’s plastic surgery in NYC. In fact, men comprise over 25% of our patients. Below are some of our most popular non-surgical and surgical procedures for men.

Non-Surgical

Botox

BOTOX® softens wrinkles and dynamic lines to smooth your skin’s surface and restore a youthful and refreshed appearance.

Facial Fillers

Facial fillers can work wonders in men to camouflage the signs of aging on the face. Hollow cheeks and facial folds can be filled out in a single office visit and patients return to work the following day, usually without any evidence of having any treatments other than the compliments that they suddenly look less “tired, gaunt, or over-worked.”

Facial Procedures

Rhinoplasty

The most popular procedure for men is rhinoplasty. Often, the subtlest changes in a nose can have a dramatic effect. If you are at all concerned about “too much” being taken off, computer imaging will help you visualize what we can accomplish. Dr. Pearlman has been recognized by New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” issue as a “master at perfecting the male proboscis.”

Blepharoplasty / Eyelid Surgery

For men, the primary concerns are bags under the eyes. We can remove lower eyelid bags from inside the lid, negating any chance of a visible incision scar. We avoid “feminizing” the eyes by a lower incision that still creates a youthful contour to the eyelids. Especially for the upper eyelids, in men, “less is more.” We prefer leaving a little extra skin instead of making an over-operated new lid. “Youthful yet masculine” is our goal.

Brow Lift

Dr. Pearlman can lift brows that droop through a few small hidden incisions as well. Depending on your hairline, we can raise brows from behind the hairline or even from an upper eyelid incision.

Facelift

Facelift incisions are different for men and women. We design each individual facelift to preserve your natural hairline, contour the sideburns, and lift the skin without looking “pulled.” We might place more emphasis under the chin, where men often have sagging skin and muscles. This is called a submentoplasty.

Body Procedures

Liposuction

Liposuction is a fantastic solution for targeted, long-term fat removal for the stomach, arms, legs, and other treatment areas. For men, the stomach is particularly common.

Scar Revision

We perform scar revision to make scars from surgery or trauma less noticeable and more cosmetically pleasing with advanced revision techniques.

Male Breast Reduction

Through precise liposuction and surgical techniques, Dr. Brian Bassiri-Tehrani can address gynecomastia—a condition that causes male breast enlargement—to help you achieve a flatter, more defined, and more “masculine” chest.

Nipple Reduction

Beyond overdeveloped breast tissue, gynecomastia can also cause men’s nipples to sag, enlarge, and protrude. With artful accuracy, we can adjust the size and location of your nipples to a more optimal, natural-looking state.

Shattering Stigmas and Redefining Masculinity

Everyone, regardless of their age or gender, deserves to feel confident—not just comfortable—in their own skin. When you look your best, you feel your best. When you feel your best, you live your best.

We recognize that it can be difficult for men to admit to their insecurities, even when those feelings are taking a toll on their self-image, mental health, and overall quality of life. We don’t accept that. As specialists in men’s plastic surgery in NYC, we’re removing outdated stigmas about what it means to be a man. Confidence is power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Men's Plastic Surgery

How can I achieve a sharper jawline?

Many men share an aesthetic goal—a more defined jawline. We offer a range of surgical and non-surgical options to sharpen men’s jawlines, helping them appear more masculine, youthful, and athletic. We’ll help you determine your best solution during your consultation, but here’s a look at some of your options.

Chin and neck liposuction is a minimally invasive surgery that removes excess submental fat—responsible for a “double chin”—to improve jawline definition and restore balance to your features. If you’re struggling with skin laxity (sagging skin), we may recommend a facelift and/or neck lift, focusing on the lower face and “jowls.” Buccal fat removal focuses on the buccal fat pads in your lower cheeks, which can slim your profile to define your cheekbones and jawline.

We also offer a range of injectables to help patients sharpen their jawline. Dermal fillers allow us to add volume to your features however you see fit, so you can achieve a more angular jawline and strengthen your chin. When injected into the masseter muscles, Botox can slim your face and jawline (in addition to addressing TMJ pain and teeth clenching and grinding). Kybella is a fat-dissolving injectable that helps your body break down fat cells, reducing the appearance of a “double chin.”

How do I achieve “masculine” facelift results?

The key to achieving masculine facelift results is to preserve your natural, angular features, rather than soften them. Of course, your vision is unique, and we’ll craft a custom plan to help you achieve your specific goals. However, we recognize that many men want to focus on their mid and lower face—specifically their jawline. That’s why we often recommend a deep plane facelift for men, as this approach lifts and tightens the underlying tissue (called the SMAS) with the skin—as a unit—rather than the superficial skin alone. This technique offers more natural, defined, and longer-lasting results.

How do I decide between surgical and non-surgical treatments?

While there’s never an exact non-invasive alternative for plastic surgery, we offer a range of options that can provide similar results without the commitment in some cases. For example, we may suggest a non-surgical rhinoplasty—using precise dermal filler injections—for someone looking to smooth a small bump on their nasal bridge. However, for someone looking for a more permanent solution or to address a larger bump or functional concerns, a surgical nose job is the only option.

When it comes to enhancing your physique, it’s important to understand that procedures like liposuction don’t work the same—nor provide the same results—as body contouring. Liposuction is a procedure that allows your surgeon to remove specific fat deposits through suction. Generally, body contouring systems remove a smaller amount of fat, but can also work to tone your muscles by stimulating contractions while providing additional skin tightening.

No single option is universally better than the others, but one may be better for your situation. In fact, many patients’ plans combine surgical and non-surgical enhancements. That’s why your consultation is always the first step—we’re here to help you weigh all of your options and make confident decisions about your care with realistic expectations.

How do I minimize scarring after surgery?

Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery’s team of highly skilled surgeons has spent decades perfecting our techniques—including using state-of-the-art technologies—to minimize scarring. That being said, any time a procedure includes an incision, some degree of scarring is inevitable. That’s why we’ve also spent countless hours curating our detailed aftercare instructions for every kind of men’s plastic surgery in NYC, focusing on expediting the natural healing process to reduce the risks of complications and excessive scar tissue development.

Your surgeon will provide these detailed instructions based on your treatment plan, but here are some general guidelines to follow:

  • Keep your incisions clean and dry during the healing process.
  • Once permitted, keep the area moisturized and gently massage it to prevent raising.
  • Protect the area from sun exposure, which can cause your scar to darken in color. Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and/or cover the incisions if you need to go outside.
  • When cleared by your surgeon, start using silicone gel or silicone sheeting over the incisions to help fade the scar as much as possible.

If you’re struggling with scarring from a previous surgery or incident, we may recommend Kenalog injections, 5-FU injections, or surgical scar revision. Kenalog injections deliver a steroid beneath your skin’s surface and directly into inflammatory scar tissue. This formula breaks down the deposits of excess collagen—proteins that act as your skin’s building blocks—to address raised hypertrophic or “keloid” scars. 5-FU has become a mainstay for reducing keloids and scar tissue from previous surgery or trauma.

If your scars are thicker or in a location that’s not ideal, we may recommend surgical revision instead. Here, we’ll remove the scar tissue—permanently—before precisely re-sewing the incision line in a fashion designed for more seamless healing.

How does 3D imaging work?

Communication is key to achieving your aesthetic vision. That’s why Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery offers advanced computer imaging to ensure we’re on the same page and set realistic expectations for your procedure. Imaging is most useful for rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, or breast augmentation.

After discussing your concerns and goals during your consultation, we’ll take photos from a range of angles to create 2D and 3D images. Then we’ll manipulate those renderings according to your vision. Beyond showing you what we can realistically accomplish, this helps you understand what your vision looks like on your features. While bringing in inspiration photos of other people for your surgery is a great starting point, it’s important to understand how those goals translate onto your specific profile or physique.

Don’t settle for less than you deserve, especially when it comes to men’s plastic surgery in NYC.

How is a male nose job different from a female nose job?

Men’s noses are anatomically different from women’s noses, and so are their aesthetic goals. Typically, men’s nasal bone structure is more prominent than women’s, and the surrounding skin and cartilage are thicker. This naturally makes men’s noses more broad than women’s—generally speaking, of course. When you work with our surgeons who specialize in men’s plastic surgery in NYC, we account for these inherent shape and proportion differences to inform our techniques.

Beyond anatomy, we recognize that many men aren’t seeking the same “delicate” results from a rhinoplasty as many women do. Often, male patients want to enhance their masculine features, keeping—or making—their noses more angular and defined, unlike women looking to soften their profile and focus on lifting the tip. Keep in mind that these are just a few common goals; you’re in control of your vision, and we’ll discuss the best ways to achieve the look you want during your personal consultation.

Is liposuction for men different from liposuction for women?

Yes. Anatomically, the male body distributes fat differently than the female body. Men tend to store denser fat in their abdomen, chest, and neck, while women typically store it in their thighs and buttocks. Additionally, the ideal aesthetic for a male may differ from that of a female. For example, a female may desire a narrow waist and wide hips, while a male may prefer a more masculine build.

While the procedure itself looks similar, our techniques look different for women’s and men’s plastic surgery in NYC. Beyond anatomy, we also recognize that men’s goals for liposuction look different from women’s, who often want to maintain their feminine curves. For men seeking a more athletic and toned appearance, we focus on removing fat from different locations to enhance their natural masculine build.

What are my options for gynecomastia surgery?

Gynecomastia—a condition that causes men’s breasts to over-develop—affects millions of men of all ages. There are several different kinds of gynecomastia, each requiring different surgical techniques.

The mildest form of gynecomastia, labeled as Type 1 by the Cruise Classification System, refers to minor breast enlargement. In this case, liposuction alone may be sufficient. However, if the breast tissue is glandular and more firm (Type 2), rather than fatty, you may need to opt for surgical male breast reduction instead of or in conjunction with liposuction.

Type 3 and Type 4 gynecomastia refer to denser breast tissue, which liposuction cannot remove. Here, we may recommend a glandular excision, creating a small incision around the nipple to remove breast tissue without removing skin tissue. If you’re struggling with skin laxity or sagging, we may suggest an excision of skin paired with the liposuction technique.

Type 5 and Type 6 gynecomastia can cause your breast skin to severely sag and/or develop rolls. In this case, a free nipple graft—where we remove and reattach the nipple—may be your best option for achieving natural-looking results with the best chest contour.

As with any kind of men’s plastic surgery in NYC, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for gynecomastia. That’s why we personalize your treatment plan, using your input from your consultation to inform our exact techniques.

What is a blepharoplasty?

The eyelids are often the first facial feature to show signs of aging. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, reshapes your eyelids—upper and/or lower—to enhance your appearance and vision.

Our surgeons carefully remove excess eyelid tissue to reverse bags and drooping, which can obscure your vision, to give men a more youthful profile. Beyond removing excess fat, and, in some cases, muscle, a blepharoplasty also removes excess skin to tighten and lift the area, which can enhance men’s stronger features.

What kind of skincare products are best for men?

Just like with plastic surgery and non-invasive aesthetic enhancements, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to skincare. That being said, men and women of all ages should use medical-grade skincare.

Unlike drugstore products, medical-grade skincare products must be proven effective in clinical trials. These formulas contain higher amounts of more potent active ingredients. Drugstore formulas often claim to address a range of concerns, but in reality, they aren’t targeting those concerns appropriately with the right solutions.

Because medical-grade products are more potent, they can only be sold by licensed professionals. Finding the right regimen isn’t easy, but instead of wandering the drugstore aisles alone, you can unlock ongoing professional guidance. When you come to Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, we’ll work to understand the root cause of your skin concerns and help you build a routine to address them—safely—removing the guesswork from the equation. While in-office skin treatments work beyond the skin’s surface to “reset” your complexion, your routine plays a key role in maintaining your results, therefore maximizing your investment.

Generally, everyone should use a cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, and sunscreen every day. A cleanser removes dirt, oil, and other impurities from your pores, while an exfoliator removes dead skin cell build-up. Moisturizing is important for maintaining your skin’s moisture barrier—no matter your skin type. Wearing SPF daily protects your skin from harmful UV rays, which can increase your risk of skin cancer and premature aging.
