Benefits of a
Pearlman Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty restores structure and strength to the nose to improve nasal airflow. Form and function are directly correlated, so improving nasal function also enhances the appearance of the nose and vice versa so you can breathe easier after the procedure.
Dr. Pearlman will never sacrifice function for form. So while restoring the appearance of the nose is of the utmost importance to our team, you can rest assured that your nasal airflow will never be compromised during the procedure. Additionally, you’ll always have expert recommendations on how to improve your breathing.
Natural Looking Results
As one of the best revision rhinoplasty surgeons, Dr. Pearlman has spent decades studying, teaching and writing about unsatisfactory rhinoplasty results. Even patients who have had multiple nose surgeries by other doctors can achieve more desirable-looking noses with a revision from Dr. Pearlman. He has the knowledge, experience, and skill to restore natural-looking results.
While your nose may not look exactly the same as it did before your primary rhinoplasty, Dr. Pearlman and his medical team can get it as close as possible to your desired results. Dr. Pearlman has honed his skill in many new revision rhinoplasty techniques, and he uses them to achieve the most natural-looking results available on the market.
At Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, we understand that one of the biggest concerns or complaints following a primary rhinoplasty is that the results don’t look natural. We also understand how upsetting it can be to feel you’ve lost an essential component of your facial structure, or to feel frustrated with how your features look after a rhinoplasty. That’s why we always strive to create results that compliment and enhance your natural features and ethnic identity, as opposed to distorting them.
The nose is a central feature of your face and can have a profound effect on a person’s overall appearance and confidence. When a rhinoplasty goes wrong, or the results look unnatural and unbalanced, it can strongly affect the way you see yourself and the way you interact with the world around you.
We understand better than most the impact a revision rhinoplasty can have on your self-esteem and your confidence. We also know the process of a revision rhinoplasty is often a lengthy and emotionally-charged one, so we always provide guidance and support for you every step of the way. You’ll receive one-on-one support and counseling with our patient care coordinator, Stefanie Dailey. Working with Dr. Pearlman on your revision rhinoplasty in New York gives you the opportunity to experience an enhanced self-image and increased confidence after surgery.
Don’t let the disappointment caused by your primary rhinoplasty, or even multiple prior nasal surgeries, affect you for the rest of your life. You can achieve a much more balanced, natural-looking facial profile with the help of Dr. Pearlman and his medical team.
Dr. Pearlman has studied this procedure in depth and is among New York and the nation’s best revision rhinoplasty veterans. It is he who other rhinoplasty surgeons often ask for advice, and many of his colleagues and peers send their difficult cases to him. Dr. Pearlman uses his expertise to achieve significant improvement for his patients, and he has lectured around the world to educate other surgeons on ideal surgical techniques.
When you work with Dr. Pearlman, you can rest assured that his goals are accessible, his techniques are reliable and up-to-date, and you are receiving the absolute best revision rhinoplasty possible. When choosing a revision rhinoplasty surgeon, it is crucial to find one who makes revisions a majority of their practice. Of all the rhinoplasty surgeries Dr. Pearlman performs, over 50% of them are revisions, meaning he performs revisions on well over 125 noses a year. When it comes to this industry, you can’t beat true and true experience in the field.
A Personal Consultation With Dr. Pearlman
How it Works
Establish Your Goals
Full Nose Examination & Imaging
Determine Mutual Goals
Dr. Pearlman will begin your consultation listening to your concerns about your nose, specific issues you are looking to resolve, and your desired results from revision rhinoplasty.
He’ll likely ask questions about your primary rhinoplasty procedure, and the things you currently like and dislike about your nose. He may ask you things like, “How long has it been since your initial surgery?” and “What was your concern that made you choose to get a primary rhinoplasty?”
Dr. Pearlman will want to ensure he thoroughly understands your goals and desired changes from your revision rhinoplasty. He’ll also explain in-depth the different areas of the nose and the techniques he would use to correct your concerns. For example, if one of the main problems you currently have with your nose is that a bump is still visible, he’ll show you how shaving down the bone on the bridge of the nose can fix this issue. He may do this with a conventional rasp, Piezo ultrasonic bone shaver, or powered rhinoplasty burr.
The goal is to help you establish a technical understanding of the recommendations Dr. Pearlman makes, so that your shared goals are clear and expectations are established. You two are, after all, a team working together towards a common goal: a more natural looking feature to enhance your overall beauty!
Based upon your unique nasal anatomy, intricacies of the nose, and your own goals, he will then perform a full examination of your nose inside and out.
Using advanced Mirror® 2D, Dr. Pearlman will demonstrate the potential changes to your nose to help you envision your future results with revision. The use of this technology is vital to understanding not only the potential changes and improvements to the nose itself, but also to visualize your new nose with the rest of your facial features.
One of the unique advantages to working with Dr. Pearlman for your revision rhinoplasty in New York is the use of computer imaging. This makes it possible to actually see the desired outcome of the revision, which opens a dialogue between you and the doctor. This gives you an opportunity to have a conversation about the expected results and to point out things you like and don’t like about the images.
Dr. Pearlman will always listen to your concerns and make changes and/or recommendations when necessary.
Lastly, you and Dr. Pearlman will establish mutual goals to enhance the appearance and breathing function of your nose through revision rhinoplasty.
This step is incredibly important as it allows Dr. Pearlman to help you understand what is physiologically possible with your revision rhinoplasty. Once the nose has been operated on, the restoration process becomes increasingly intricate and detailed. Dr. Pearlman is uniquely qualified to perform these revisions, but having important expectations is necessary for the success of the surgery.
You’ll chat with Dr. Pearlman about the expectations of the procedure and the results, including how many revision surgeries may be necessary, and to what extent the original condition of the nose can be restored. Establishing these mutual goals is beneficial for everyone involved.
The right revision rhinoplasty surgeon for you should be able to provide a wealth of information regarding your procedure, especially since this particular procedure can be so complex.
Throughout your revision rhinoplasty consultation at our NYC office, we highly encourage you to ask any and every question on your mind. We will walk you through every step of the process so you can feel confident in your decision to receive a revision rhinoplasty by Dr. Steven Pearlman.

Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery
Dr. Pearlman and his staff will closely guide you through your post operative care. He will provide detailed instructions on all aspects of the process to help guide your recovery.
The incision heals so that it is barely visible, if at all and only when viewed up close and from below the nose. Dr. Pearlman often says “someone will have to be close enough to be able to count your nasal hairs to see this incision.”
What To Expect
Your first visit to our office will be scheduled for one week post-op, when we remove the cast and any external sutures used.
In addition, we’ll carefully clean the nose, suctioning out any build up, and ensuring the incisions are clean and healthy.
Subsequent visits are in a few weeks to make sure things are healing well, then at 2 and 6 months, and one year post-op for photographs. Most patients will see 85% of their results at 1 month out, 90% of results at 6 months out and 95% at 1 year.
Superior Rhinoplasty Recovery
Because of Dr. Pearlman’s expertise and skill, you’re likely to have a vastly different recovery experience at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery than anywhere else in the city or even the country. He operates with such precision and meticulous care that there is very little trauma caused to the soft tissue around the eyes.
There is often less bruising, and a quicker recovery period than we hear about from other practices. Of course, every patient heals differently, but many of our patients report that their swelling is less than expected and lasts for a shorter amount of time. This is just another reason why Dr. Pearlman is the best revision rhinoplasty surgeon in NYC.

Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can I have revision rhinoplasty?
Dr. Pearlman prefers to wait a year before performing complex revision rhinoplasty surgery because noses heal for a full year following a rhinoplasty. It’s important for all the swelling to go down and scar tissue to soften. Sometimes, when the issue is a nasal tip that is too full, this resolves by itself since it can actually take a year or more for all the swelling in the nasal tip to go down.
Is a rhinoplasty covered by my insurance?
If the purpose of your rhinoplasty is to correct breathing issues and a deviated nasal symptom, it is possible your insurance may cover the breathing or functional portion of the procedure! Dr. Pearlman’s dedicated office staff will be more than happy to assist you in discovering whether or not your procedure will be covered. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by insurance, but we do offer several financing options for you to choose from.
Is revision rhinoplasty more complicated than primary?
Since Dr. Pearlman is reshaping or substituting for warped, over-resected cartilage and bone, revision rhinoplasty is often more complicated and difficult to perform. Depending on the patient, revision rhinoplasty ranges from a simple shave or a complex reconstruction of the nose. It’s important to address all aspects of the nose to restore a more attractive, functional, and natural-looking nose with a veteran in revision rhinoplasty like Dr. Pearlman.
What are the choices for grafts in revision rhinoplasty?
Dr. Pearlman prefers your own cartilage to foreign materials for grafts in revision rhinoplasty. Preferences include nasal septal cartilage, ear cartilage, and rib cartilage – in that order. The choice depends on how much cartilage you need, how strong, and what needs to be done to the nose.
What is a revision rhinoplasty cartilage graft?
Grafts are materials, usually from your own tissue, such as cartilage, that is taken from one place and put in another for support of nasal structures. When properly harvested, you won’t miss the cartilage from the source.
The first source we look to for grafts is your own nasal septum. We often remove septal cartilage to fix a “deviated septum.” Ear cartilage can be used in some cases. When ear cartilage is taken, after a few months no one will be able to tell. Dr. Pearlman also uses rib cartilage with minimal scars and no chest wall deformity as well. It may sound aggressive, but rib cartilage harvest has no detriment on the body and has little more discomfort than the nasal surgery.
What will the first week of recovery entail?
You will have some bruising and swelling around the eyes during the first week of recovery. Some patients need time to adjust to breathing through their mouth; it’s akin to having a mild cold. Fatigue from the anesthesia is common for the first day or two. Patients should rest the first few days in an upright position to minimize swelling for better healing.

To complement a rhinoplasty, some patients choose to receive a chin augmentation or liposuction of the neck. Chin augmentation is the procedure most commonly performed alongside a rhinoplasty; approximately 1 in 5 rhinoplasty patients would benefit from a chin implant to create more balance and symmetry to the face.
