NECK LIFT VS. NECK LIPOSUCTION

As the years pass by, the neck ages along with the rest of the body; sagging skin, muscle laxity, and excess fat may lead to the so-called “turkey neck” that can be seen in older individuals. Neck lift surgery and neck liposuction are two procedures that can address common complaints associated with aging. These treatments rejuvenate the appearance in different ways.

NECK LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat from the body. It can be performed anywhere on the body, including the neck. On the neck, excess fat can create noticeable bands and may collect beneath the chin, simulating a second or “double chin.” With neck liposuction, the excess fat is removed to improve the contour and definition of the neck. Through a few tiny incisions, a tube is inserted, and the excess fat is permanently suctioned out of the neck area to rejuvenate its appearance. Because this procedure only addresses fat, neck liposuction is for patients whose primary concern is stubborn neck fat and not tissue laxity, wrinkles, or other serious signs of aging.

NECK LIFT

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that corrects tissue laxity in the neck. Like many expert plastic surgeons, Dr. Pearlman incorporates neck lift surgery with his facelift surgery techniques because the procedures are synergetic. Correcting sagging skin and muscle laxity in the lower face and neck can dramatically refresh the appearance.
The effects of aging on the neck can be corrected with one of two approaches. The first is the mini-facelift, which tightens the SMAS (underlying facial musculature) and improves the early jowls and excess skin that sag in the lower face and neck. This procedure is for younger patients who have minimal sagging and early aging indicators. The second technique is the deep plane facelift, which lifts and repositions the underlying layers of the face and neck, as well as the skin, to improve tissue laxity and the effects of aging. This procedure is for patients who have more serious signs of aging and provides natural-looking results that last longer. Both approaches involve surgical incisions, tightening the facial structures, and removing excess skin. Neck liposuction is often incorporated as well.

YOUR TREATMENT PLAN

As an experienced and dual board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Pearlman can evaluate your needs and wishes to determine the best surgical approach for you. If you are mostly concerned about excess fat and bands along your neck, you may be able to achieve your desired results with neck liposuction. If you have a turkey neck with tissue laxity and other symptoms of aging, neck lift surgery is the recommended solution. The extent of your surgery will depend on your needs. Whichever procedure is selected for your treatment plan, it will rejuvenate your neck and help you reclaim a youthful, slender, and defined neckline.
