Welcome to Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery for eyelid surgery in NYC on Park Avenue.

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can correct a multitude of concerns around the eye area. Removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper or lower eyelids results in a younger looking, refreshed appearance as well as improved vision for some patients whose eyelids drooped far enough to impair it.

If you feel bothered by the way your eyes are aging, eyelid surgery in NYC can help you restore your youthful appearance.

Creating a Youthful, Wakeful Look

The eyes are often the first feature noticed on our face—and they are also one of the first areas that truly reflect our age. As we get older, the skin and muscles surrounding our eyelids begin to loosen and sag.

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can effectively restore a youthful look to your eyes and improve the overall attractiveness of your face. If you feel bothered by eyes that appear to be aging, it’s time to explore the options of blepharoplasty with Dr. Steven Pearlman, a dual board-certified facial plastic surgeon in NYC.

Anyone who is bothered by sagging eyelids, puffy eyes, discoloration or undereye bags may be an excellent candidate for a blepharoplasty. Dr. Pearlman suggests that patients be in good mental and physical health, with no major medical issues that might interfere with surgery or its recovery. Patients should be non-smokers, and have realistic expectations for improvement based on their confidential consultation at our Manhattan office.

Recovery

To prepare for your blepharoplasty in NYC, you will first meet with Dr. Pearlman for a consultation at our office on Park Avenue. Dr. Pearlman will listen to your concerns and desired results from this procedure .

He will then examine the treatment area, explain potential options for the results that will best suit you, and answer any questions you may have.

Whether you’re treating tired eyes, drooping eyelids, or another concern, your blepharoplasty / eyelid surgery in NYC with Dr. Pearlman will have natural, rejuvenated results.

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure. An upper blepharoplasty is often performed using only local anesthetic. For a lower blepharoplasty, or if we’re combining with another procedure like a brow lift or facelift, you’ll be given general anesthesia.

To make blepharoplasty scars inconspicuous, Dr. Pearlman makes incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids and sometimes inside the lower eyelid to hide them.

The surgery will take 1 to 2 hours depending on your specific eyelid surgery. Treating 1 eyelid takes only about 1 hour, if you’re treating both your procedure will take more time.

Be sure to have someone available to drive you to and from your surgery.

As with all of our surgical treatments, our team will provide you with detailed and thorough guidelines for your post-surgery care. The typical patient recovery period for eyelid surgery in NYC from Dr. Pearlman is just 1 week.

These are some general guidelines:

  • The first 2 to 3 days are when you’ll experience the most discomfort
  • Using ice packs several times throughout the day will help reduce swelling
  • Get plenty of rest and keep your head elevated
  • Wearing sunglasses can help reduce your healing time
  • Avoid activities that raise your blood pressure

Most patients feel like returning to normal activities within about a week to a week and a half, when most of the bruising and swelling has gone down. If you wear contacts, most patients will  be able to resume wearing them about 2 weeks after your procedure.

Eyelid Surgery in NYC

We often perform a more natural conservation lower eyelid blepharoplasty by preserving the fat that was bulging and creating the bags, then re-positioning that fat pad into the hollow area beneath called the tear trough.
We use your own fat to create a smooth contour. The “hill above” is lowered and the excess placed in the valley that was beneath.

What To Expect

Upper Eyelids

Dr. Pearlman makes incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids to remove excess skin and fat while adjusting muscle tissue. Upper eyelid surgery through blepharoplasty also reduces sagging skin or hooding that may impair vision, fine lines, and puffiness of the upper eyelids

Lower Eyelids

Dr. Pearlman often is able to hide incisions inside the eyelid so no one can ever tell you had surgery. This is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. We sometimes combine this with laser therapy or an incision just below the lash line of the lower eyelids to remove excess skin. Lower eyelid surgery through blepharoplasty reduces loose skin and fine wrinkles in the lower eyelids as well as puffiness and bags under the eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Blepharoplasty

Can I combine my blepharoplasty with other plastic surgery?

Yes! Patients will often elect to receive a blepharoplasty alongside a facelift, brow lift,  lip lift and even rhinoplasty. A facelift only lifts the lower 2/3 of the face (addressing the cheeks, jawline and neck), so combining with a blepharoplasty and brow lift can provide you with total facial rejuvenation.

Does blepharoplasty remove dark circles?

Lower eyelid surgery can remove under eye bags and we can reposition fat to fill in a hollow tear trough. Dark circles caused by this hollowing will disappear after surgery, however if your dark circles are caused by pigment issues in the skin, we’ll need to consider other treatment options.

How long do eyelid surgery results last?

The results of eyelid surgery last for many years. The tissues around the eyes will continue to age naturally over time. Lower eyelid surgery results are often permanent and rarely need to be repeated. Upper eyelid results can last for years with proper care and skincare maintenance.

How soon can I wear contacts after blepharoplasty surgery?

Most individuals can wear contact lenses about 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

Is there a non-surgical alternative to eyelid surgery?

Laser procedures and peels can be recommended as alternatives or in combination with eyelid surgery to help address pigment,  fine lines and wrinkles. There is no minimally invasive procedure that can replicate the results of a surgical eyelift.

Lower eyelid bags can sometimes be camouflaged with cheek and lower eyelid filler placed in the hollow below the bags called tear troughs. Botox and facial fillers can be used to address lines and wrinkles, but puffy and baggy eyelids, excess sin, and “hooding” cannot be corrected without surgery

What is the best age to undergo an eyelid lift?

While there is no “best” age to undergo an eyelid lift, most of our eyelid surgery patients are in their 40s or beyond. Some people may decide to undergo the procedure in their 30s and occasionally even in their 20s if they have naturally hooded eyes or premature lower eyelid bags.

What is the cost of eyelid surgery in NYC?

The cost of eyelid surgery in NYC will vary from patient to patient because eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper lids, the lower lids, or both at the same time. If you receive additional treatments such as dermal fillers or laser therapy, then the costs will also naturally be affected. Dr. Pearlman will provide you with a full, detailed quote during your private NYC consultation for blepharoplasty. We will also assist you with securing financing from a variety of reputable healthcare lenders.

What is the recovery time for blepharoplasty in NYC from Dr. Pearlman?

The recovery time for a blepharoplasty is 7 to 10 days in most instances.

Will blepharoplasty scars be noticeable?

To make blepharoplasty scars as inconspicuous as possible, Dr. Pearlman makes incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids and sometimes inside the lower eyelid to hide them.
