Why choose Dr. Pearlman?
Dr. Pearlman is a Double Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon with a keen understanding of facial anatomy. He carefully and patiently examines your unique anatomy to curate a treatment plan that ensures your earlobes are proportional and symmetrical with your face to create the best procedure plan for you.
What Earlobe Repair Can Fix
Earlobe repair surgeries treat a wide range of earlobe damage, but these conditions can broadly be placed into the following categories — stretched out earlobes, earlobe tears or splits, and earlobe abnormalities.
Stretched Earlobes
The earlobe piercing may get stretched because of heavy earrings or ear gauging that can stretch your cartilage down over time. With traditional earrings, as the piercing stretches down, the hole becomes too large for ear studs. An earlobe repair reduces the size of the earlobes or closes the gap created from gauged ears.
Earlobe Tears or Splits
An earlobe tear refers to a situation wherein the split extends all the way down the earlobe, splitting it in two. It usually occurs when from an action that forcibly removes an earring such as a hairbrush, caught in a sweater or pulled by an infant. During the earlobe repair, Dr. Pearlman cuts away the healed parts of the insides of the earlobe hole, and sutures the two sides together, allowing them to heal together. Depending on the defect, he may employ plastic surgical techniques such as Z-Plasty or rotation flaps.
Earlobe Abnormalities
This refers to various aesthetic abnormalities, such as an unusually large, elongated, or fleshy earlobe. Dr. Pearlman can make the necessary modifications to ensure your earlobe’s proportion to the rest of your facial anatomy. Earlobe reduction is commonly performed with a Facelift.

The Procedure
Recovery
You’ll meet with Dr. Pearlman for an earlobe repair consultation at our office on Park Avenue in Manhattan. Dr. Pearlman listens to your concerns and desired results from this procedure. He examines the earlobe damage, discusses your aesthetic goals, and curates the ideal treatment plan for your specific needs.
During the procedure, our Dr. Pearlman administers local anesthesia to numb the region. Next, he makes the incisions, depending on the region and type of damage. We may remove or refigure traumatically damaged tissue to restore the earlobes to functional and aesthetic perfection as closely as possible. Finally, he sutures the earlobes. The surgery typically takes up to 20 minute per ear.
You may experience swelling, bruising, and itching immediately after the earlobe repair procedure. Dr. Pearlman will prescribe some painkillers and antibiotic ointment to apply on the incisions.
The sutures will have to be removed in a few days, but you can resume most of your daily activities the day after surgery. You should allow your earlobes to heal for at least 3 months before getting them re-pierced.
Whether you receive surgery for ear repair in NYC to mend gauged ears, split earlobes, or another concern, your results will restore your ears to a pleasing look.
Frequently Asked Questions
Earlobe Repair
Am I a suitable candidate for earlobe repair in NYC?
An earlobe repair is a minor surgical procedure, so it’s suitable for most people with split, torn, or otherwise abnormal earlobes. You should consider an earlobe repair if:
- Your earlobes are severely damaged due to trauma or jewelry
- You can’t wear earrings or studs anymore because of large earlobes
- Your earlobes aren’t proportional or symmetrical
- Your earlobes have torn all the way through
- You are physically and mentally healthy
- You don’t have underlying health conditions that may impede the healing process
- You don’t have a history of excessive scarring
Does insurance cover split earlobe repair?
No, insurance does not cover split earlobe repair. This is because the surgery is cosmetic, not functional.
How much does ear lobe surgery cost?
Ear lobe surgery costs $1,000 to $2,000 per ear.
Will a split earlobe repair itself?
No, a split earlobe will not repair itself. The only way to mend a split or torn earlobe is through earlobe repair surgery.

Dr Pearlman, his surgical nurse Christine, and his anesthesiologist Dr Morena are wonderful. I had a rhinoplasty septoplasty and deep plane face lift 10 weeks ago today and I am thrilled with the results. Dr Pearlman is meticulous and took the time to answer all of my questions. I was given detailed pre and post op instructions and when I had a few questions about the healing process during the first few weeks post-op, Christine responded immediately with the answers to my questions. My biggest concern wasn't the surgery because I was confident in my choice of Dr Pearlman to perform the surgeries but rather being under anesthesia for 6 hours. Dr Morena called me, explained the process and assured me of the safety of anesthesia. I am very pleased with the outcome.I can breathe so much better, my nose is straight and my neck and face look lifted! I highly recommend Dr Pearlman!

Christine has been my go-to skincare expert for years. Being a medical aesthetician myself, I am extremely selective when choosing my own providers for facial rejuvenation and skincare recommendations. I trust her expertise explicitly. I go to her yearly for my Ultherapy treatments and also seek out her guidance when it comes to switching up my skincare regimen. Like most people, lately I’ve been spending more time outdoors due to the pandemic and so I have been noticing more and more hyperpigmentation. Christine put me on a new brightening regimen and I’m so excited to see the results. RESULTS! That’s exactly what you can expect when you trust your face and skin to her. The level of professionalism and compassion at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery is of the highest caliber. I will be a loyal patient for years to come. If you're committed to taking better care of your skin and you want to invest in treatments that will make a beautiful difference, do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Christine.
