Options for Neck Rejuvenation: Minimally invasive to Surgery
Patients seek neck lifts to tighten and remove excess skin on the neck, reduce fat deposits, and stop neck banding. We offer the following neck lift procedures in our state-of-the-art Manhattan office:
The progression of neck treatments are:
- Kybella to dissolve excess neck fat
- Neck liposuction to for more comprehensive neck fat reduction
- Botox for neck (platysma) bands
- MyEllevate to cut neck/platysma bands and tighten neck skin
- Surgical Neck lift to reduce neck fullness, excess skin, create a more defined jawline and some jowl reduction
Kybella or Neck Liposuction
Kybella is a minimally invasive procedure that dissolves excess fat under the chin and in the upper neck. This is performed in the office. Patients are treated in an exam chair akin to fillers or Botox. After each treatment, there is swelling of the neck for approximately 5 days. Neck liposuction is performed under either local or general anesthesia. Excess fat is removed. Patients wear a compression garment for 5 days and can return to the office in approximately 1 week
Botox for Neck/Platysma Bands
Some patients have bands in the front of their neck from contraction of the platysma muscle. If these get tense and more visible with grimacing, they can be softened with Botox treatments.
MyEllevate
MyEllevate is a procedure, performed under local anesthesia, where the platysma bands are directly cut using a suture through the skin. After that, a permanent thread is placed in the neck to tighten loose neck skin. This is not a “thread lift.” MyEllevate uses a specially designed device that assures these threads are placed at just the right depth. Other thread lift procedures use dissolvable sutures that do not last. MyEllevate can be combined with liposuction for lower face and neck contouring. MyEllevate is for patients who do not have significant neck skin laxity and are not a substitute for a surgical neck lift or facelift.
Surgical Neck Lift
A surgical neck lift uses an incision just under the chin and another around the earlobe and on the back of the ear to tighten the neck and create more neck contour. Excess fat that is sometimes beneath the platysma muscle, that is not accessible by liposuction, can be removed directly and the muscle tightened in the midline. he incision around the ear gives access to tighten the platysma muscle from the side and tuck it under the ear for a more snatched neckline. There is even some improvement in the jowls. If patients have significant skin excess, they are not a candidate for this procedure since their faces are drooping as well. In that case we consider a full cheek-neck lift or facelift.
Direct Neck Lift
For elderly patients who have a significant amount of excess neck skin and want to improve their neck with a less invasive procedure than a full face and neck lift, we consider a direct neck lift. Through an incision down the front of the neck, excess skin is removed and the platysma muscle tightened. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia.
