liposuction cost New York

Liposuction Cost | New York Plastic Surgeon

Getting in shape is a common goal for both men and women. Despite your best efforts, however, excess fat can accumulate in parts of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. Targeted liposuction in NYC is a popular solution to reduce fat in stubborn areas like the thighs, back, arms, and abdomen.

If you’re considering this solution, you may be wondering about the cost of liposuction. At Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, we pride ourselves on helping our patients make informed decisions about their aesthetic care.

Dr. Brian Bassiri-Tehrani sat down to talk through the process of liposuction, costs associated with surgery, and the expected recovery time.

What determines the cost of liposuction?

As with any surgery, there are multiple factors that contribute to the overall cost. Liposuction is no different, and it costs $5,000 to $15,000 depending on your treatment plan.

Liposuction costs may include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Surgical facility costs
  • Medical tests and X-rays
  • Post-surgery garments
  • Surgeon’s fees

There are many factors that can impact the cost of your individual liposuction procedure.

How Many Areas You’re Treating

It’s possible to treat multiple areas of the body during your procedure. Treating more than one area can increase the cost of liposuction.

We can use liposuction in the following treatment areas:

  • Waist
  • Back
  • Bra Rolls
  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Calves
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Chin

If You’re Having Another Procedure

Liposuction can be performed in tandem with other procedures, such as fat transfers. Getting multiple surgeries at the same time impacts the cost of your surgery. While it may increase your cost, it’s less expensive than doing several surgeries separately.

Your Surgeon’s Experience

Your surgeon’s expertise and experience also contribute to the cost of your surgery. A more experienced surgeon will likely have higher costs, but you can benefit from their knowledge with better liposuction results.

Financing Options

While it won’t change the price, financing can help you defer the upfront cost of your procedure and work it into your budget with ease. Insurance does not typically cover the cost of liposuction surgery.

Am I a candidate for liposuction?

Excellent candidates for liposuction are in good general health, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about their results from liposuction.

30% Of Your Ideal Weight

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It’s designed to target specific areas of stubborn fat in the body. Ideal candidates for liposuction are already within 30% of their goal body weight.

Firm Skin Elasticity

If your skin lacks elasticity, it can sag after removing excess fat. If you’re concerned about the possibility of sagging skin, a tummy tuck instead of liposuction might be a better choice for you. You can discuss this with your surgeon during your consultation.

Excess Fat Deposits Resistant to Diet & Exercise

Candidates for liposuction have excess fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. In some cases, it’s not excess fat that’s causing your concerns; it could be loose skin after weight loss or something else.

The Liposuction Process

Scheduling a consultation with an expert provider is the best way to figure out the cost of liposuction for you. Liposuction involves a personalized treatment plan, so it will look different for each patient.

Consultation

At Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, we prioritize the consultation process so we can get to know you and your goals. During this conversation, you’ll get the chance to meet with our Patient Care Coordinator and Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani.

Be prepared to discuss:

  • Your diet and exercise habits
  • Your medical history
  • Your surgical goals
  • Current medications you’re taking
  • Additional procedures

It’s possible to combine multiple surgeries to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Many patients include liposuction as part of their mommy makeover treatment plan.

We may also recommend a skin-tightening procedure for patients who may experience loose skin after their liposuction.

Our team will walk you through how liposuction works, and we highly encourage you to ask questions during your liposuction consultation.

Treatment

Liposuction can take 1 to 4 hours, depending on the surgery area(s). At Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani operates at our luxurious in-office facility in Manhattan.

Before your surgery, our patient care team will answer any remaining questions you may have.

After applying the anesthetic, Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani will make very small incisions and insert the cannula into the treatment area. With this cannula and Microaire PAL (Power-Assisted Lipo), he will skillfully remove fat and sculpt the areas with excess fat.

We can combine liposuction in multiple areas based on your individualized treatment plan, adding procedures like fat transfers, a tummy tuck, and breast surgery.

Depending on your body and personal preference, it’s possible to perform liposuction with localized anesthesia instead of general.

Results

Liposuction results are permanent with proper diet and exercise, and the longevity of your results is definitely something to consider when you’re thinking of liposuction costs.

Once fat cells are removed from an area of the body, they don’t grow back or return in the same area after liposuction. However, it’s still possible for the remaining fat cells to grow in size with any weight changes. It is also possible that more fat cells grow in size in the areas that have not been treated by liposuction, giving the illusion that the fat returns in other areas (areas not treated by liposuction).

The most important thing to keep in mind is maintaining a stable weight before and after surgery is crucial for best results. Adhering to a healthy, well-balanced diet and exercise regimen is very important, especially after surgery.

After a relatively brief recovery period, you’ll be back to your normal activities and enjoying your liposuction results. Be sure to have a diet and exercise plan to maintain your results.

Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani, our Patient Care Coordinator, and the rest of our surgical team will be there to guide and support you throughout your liposuction recovery. We will schedule follow-up appointments to assess your healing and results.

Factor Recovery Time Into Your Liposuction Cost

Planning for recovery is an essential part of preparing for your liposuction surgery. The time you need to take off from work is something to consider as part of the cost of liposuction.

How much time will you need to take off?

Most patients need to plan to take about less than 1 week off from work, although this depends on the type of work you do and the extent of the surgery. The initial recovery period is 4 to 7 days after liposuction.

You will be able to resume exercise within one week of liposuction, depending on your comfort level. ,  If you have a particularly active job, you might be looking at more time off.

Most patients start to feel back to normal after about 1 week. After about 2-3 weeks, you should be almost completely free of any soreness.

Compression Garments

Compression garments is critical for the recovery period. Compression garments are important to help swelling go down and hasten your downtime. It will add to the cost of liposuction, although minimally. You’ll need to wear your garments on the treatment area for about 1 month after your surgery.

Lymphatic Massage:

Lymphatic massage after liposuction is a great way to help the swelling go down. For liposuction, massages can be started within 48 hours after surgery – the sooner the better. The first couple of sessions may be a little uncomfortable, but each massage is individualized to the patient and procedure performed.

At Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery, we collaborate with a team of expert lymphatic masseuses who specialize in medical-grade massages and understand and are experienced in the nuances of the surgeries performed and the nature of expected recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction in NYC

Does liposuction hurt?

Your comfort is our priority. Liposuction is a surgical procedure, so there is some soreness involved. However, we use anesthetic during the surgery and can provide prescription medication during recovery. Most patients find that the pain is easily manageable with over-the-counter pain medicines without the need for narcotic pain medications.

Can I combine liposuction with other procedures?

Yes! Patients frequently combine liposuction with other aesthetic procedures. It’s often included in a mommy makeover, or it’s combined with fat transfers to the breasts or buttocks to improve shape and contour. For some patients, we utilize skin-tightening technologies to further enhance liposuction results.

Should I get liposuction or a tummy tuck?

Whether a tummy tuck vs. liposuction is better depends on your specific anatomy and needs. A tummy tuck will better address concerns with excess skin and rectus diastasis.

If you have good skin quality with minimal excess skin and are troubled by stubborn fat that does not respond to exercise, liposuction is better suited for you. You can find the best procedure for you with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani.

How long do liposuction results last?

Depending on your health and lifestyle choices, liposuction results can last permanently. The fat cells we remove with liposuction cannot come back, but the remaining fat cells can still expand from weight gain.

Does liposuction require a hospital stay?

Generally, liposuction doesn’t require a hospital stay. However, if we are combining multiple surgeries, it may be preferred. We’ll discuss this during your consultation.
