About Dr. Stein
Dr. Michael J. Stein is a double board-certified, Manhattan-based plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, breast, and body. He is highly regarded by his patients for his excellent patient care, attention to detail, and individualized approach.
As a plastic surgeon in NYC, Dr Stein’s aesthetic interests include facelifts, breast surgery, abdominoplasty, and liposuction. His reconstructive interests include microsurgical reconstruction following cancer and trauma, Mohs facial reconstruction for skin cancer, and nerve surgery of the extremities.
Dr. Stein is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University and an Assistant Attending in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital.
Dr. Stein trained at some of the finest institutions in Canada and the United States. A native of Toronto, Canada, Dr. Stein completed a Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc) at McGill University, graduating with honors and a double major in biomedical sciences and social studies of medicine. He then received his medical degree (MD) at the University of British Columbia, one of the top-ranked medical schools in Canada. Dr. Stein completed his 5-year plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Ottawa where he served as chief resident and was certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC). Following graduation, Dr. Stein pursued a Master’s degree in Applied Sciences (MASc) at Johns Hopkins University with a focus on patient safety and healthcare quality. Dr. Stein also completed a fellowship at the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat, and Lenox Hill hospitals specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
He has a passion for clinical research. He has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences. His excellence in research has been recognized through multiple research awards and being an invited reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals in plastic surgery.
Dr. Stein is also an accomplished athlete. At McGill University he was an Academic All-Canadian varsity athlete as a member of the varsity soccer team and competed in the national championship. At the University of British Columbia, he was a member of the junior varsity rowing team and competed in the San Diego Classic Regatta. Today, Dr. Stein is an avid runner and cyclist.
